in the age of ai, everyone thinks the more we personalise, the more the results.
but having sent over a million cold emails in the last 3 months.
the numbers speak otherwise.

There are folks using ai (clay) to:

the list goes on. but honestly who doesn’t like well researched emails?
so ideally it should work, shouldn’t it.
the way the world works is that the more these emails become common, the more people realise it’s just ai
awareness in this case reduces value
and at the end, what really just matters in cold outreach based on the volume we’ve sent is:
1. a solid offer (easy to understand)
2. targeting the right icp
3. great deliverability
see the above is generic. everyone says this. but today ill teach you what this means:
let’s say you’re selling lead gen services / cold outreach
technically the whole world should be your oyster?
but then think again. which icp would be the easiest to target?

for obvious reasons, the one icp i would go after if i was doing the above would be agency owners
they tick quite literally all the boxes
then would come choosing how to target agencies
the larger agencies work on referrals and are usually stable
any agency that is over one year old
has at least 10 employees
has a founder that is active on at least one social platform (proves they care about awareness)
and has decent brands on their roster (ones you know and don’t need to google)

they have also been paid for results they deliver (offer the same)
they are juggling 100 things, so ideally they would want to close the call or have it fully done for them
and most importantly, they get pitched by nearly 100 people a week for this. so an incentive to get them on a call. can be just a cookie being sent to their house if they don’t find value
and boom.
deliverability is a long katha. but even if you do it manually (the above two) you’ve understood most of the things
understanding the icp matters more than personalising to flatter them
shorter the better (unlike what you see on Instagram)
